About US

Our Story

Aspiration International Homeschool (AIH) first welcomed learners in 2021, when our founders, Mr Oon Eu Jin, and our Head, Mr Daniel Arendzen, saw the potential to establish a homeschool with the goal of providing learners high-quality education regardless of their distance.

AIH is distinct in its homeschool approach but bears the same qualities as our sister school of Aspiration International Secondary School (AISS). AISS, which is in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is also a private international secondary school registered by the Ministry of Education and is an official Cambridge school. Furthermore, we are a formal examination centre for private candidates who wish to do their IGCSE exams. AISS gives local and international learners the opportunity to excel, to obtain good grades in a positive and stimulating environment.

Extraordinary circumstances in recent times require creative solutions to ensure learners stay on their education track. The idea of establishing a homeschool came about after analysing our current situation. The Covid-19 pandemic caused havoc across most educational institutions all over the globe. However, AISS was very quick to adapt and continued giving quality education. The recent results show as our graduation class passed all subjects with higher grades than expected!

The result was apparent when we changed to online teaching and because we became good at that, we wanted to give the same opportunity to learners who lack quality education due to the pandemic. This also applies to all of those who already decided that homeschooling meets their needs better than going to a physical school.

Mr Daniel Arendzen has experience in establishing distance learning programmes in the USA, India and studied his master degree through distance learning. This added benefit is put into practice and now AIH is a fact!

Homeschooling with a team of dedicated teachers who also teach at AISS and other schools, AIH made distance learning possible. We established quality courses following the same positive, community building and personalised learning styles.

We would like to invite you to be a part of Aspiration International Homeschool so you, too, can fully use the benefits of homeschooling with the security of a successful journey throughout.

Cambridge School

Through AISS, Aspiration International Homeschool is a Cambridge school. But, what does that mean and what are the benefits for the learners?

This is what Cambridge has to say:
All schools offering Cambridge qualifications must demonstrate their eligibility to do so by successfully registering with us. Registered schools gain access to a unique range of teaching and learning resources, professional development opportunities – and a world-class curriculum and wide range of qualifications for 5 to 19-year-olds.

We provide registered Cambridge schools with a certificate and a wall plaque. This confirms their status as a Cambridge school. We also provide Cambridge schools with a customer logo that reflects the type of customer they are.
Cambridge University Press & Assessment 2021

As you can see, our learners are in safe and professional hands as we teach according to the standard Cambridge is expecting from us.

Achievements

AIH has a sister school that is well established and successful. Despite the considerable disruptions caused by the pandemic, AISS students have done exceptionally well. The achievements have proven that AISS established a track record with commendable academic achievement.

Ms Nurliyana Binti Md Isa

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science Education (Hons.) Chemistry from MARA University of Technology Malaysia, UiTM

Description: Ms Nur Liyana is a very passionate person about education and aims that every learner would enjoy their learning process at the same time truly understanding what they have learned.

More About Her: Lower secondary History Teacher

I was previously trained at MARA University of Technology and achieved a BA Hons in Education of Science Chemistry with Qualified teaching status. My teaching experience began as a Mathematics and Science tutor which started on my final year degree. I like to read during my free time, especially physiology, history, and science. I am fascinated by how they work.

History has always been my passion, and I am certainly privileged to teach learners this subject and I love to see history transform young people’s lives. There is so much to learn about the incredible world we live in. Most importantly, we as a community need to understand history to appreciate the world we live in.

Teaching History can help provide learners with a sense of identity. Learners learn about the great people of history who have successfully developed society, countries, education, and technologies.

As a homeschool teacher, it is possible to focus the learning towards the individual needs and interests of the learners. I always enjoy my sessions with learners, and they certainly will continue to be my greatest source of inspiration and that is to be a better educator myself.

Mr Khalish Syamil

Education: Foundation in Engineering and Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UITM Shah Alam

Description: According to Mr Khalish, the best part about being a teacher is seeing his student’s achievements. There is no better feeling in the world than seeing them getting good results.

More About Him: Mathematics and Mathematics Additional Teacher

I’ve had a passion for Mathematics ever since I was a child. It was all I’ve ever known. However, I took a liking towards teaching in high school when I constantly taught my circle of friends. Something about seeing my friends content about understanding a topic made me want to pursue teaching as a career. I knew I wanted to help people learn and understand what they couldn’t. So, what better way to start a career than my two passions, teaching and mathematics. I am certainly fond of teaching as I’ve been doing it for about 5 years now.

I consider myself as someone who is friendly and patient with children. I believe the root to becoming an excellent teacher lies in our intentions and hopes of helping our students to be successful, so that they can strive to be excellent human beings.

The pure satisfaction I feel is when I see the look on my learners’ faces. That look of relief and being able to understand something every time they ask me a question. As a teacher, I don’t only teach them Mathematics, I actually learn from my learners and I aspire to always be a better teacher for them.

Ms Puwaneswary

Mr Wilfred Tan

Description: Mr Wilfred enjoys being part of the team as his objective is to educate learners. He also aims to share experience on how learners can translate knowledge that they have learned into real-world skills.

More About Him: Lower Secondary Science and IGCSE Chemistry Teacher

Having graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from University Technology of Malaysia, I had been engaging myself in the manufacturing industry production of EPE/EPP shock absorption foam for more than 20 years. At the age of 47, I decided to step down as technical advisor of an EPE/EPP manufacturing plant in Dongguan China.

Being an industrial trainer was one of the most important roles during my career in the manufacturing industry. Systematic methodologies to manufacture EPE/EPP products with thoughtful consideration to achieve a better balance of effectiveness and efficiency in productivity, quality and cost is always, but not the only key topic. Here is where scientific thinking comes into everyone’s mind.

The passion of teaching and guiding others to achieve a better life by using scientific knowledge still continues after having left the manufacturing industry. This is why I seized the golden opportunity to join Aspiration International Homeschool as a course creator for Lower Secondary Science and work on a new career path as a tutor for the same courses.

Science is more than just the evidence and facts that the scientists have obtained to prove any hypothesis. It is more about the curiosity to explore and get to know the universe better. The more we get to know about the universe, the more we want to be informed. Science is also a matter of applying the knowledge about the universe to make our life better with coexistence with other living beings as well as nature.

I have a keen interest in reading. Some of the genres I am interested in are psychology, philosophy, self-motivation, leadership and management. It helps me to refresh my mind and helps me to build new life perspectives. I also love swimming and hiking. The fun of having connection with nature when hiking is always irresistible.

Being curious, asking questions, finding out and connecting the truths, science is nothing in particular, but just our everyday life. Being in the manufacturing industry for years, I am sure I will not only be able to guide you through the learning of science, but also to tell you more about the interesting applications of science in our daily life.

Ms Imulok Marcus (Gina)

Education: Diploma in English, Bachelor (Hons) in English Language and Literature Studies, Master of Education in Teaching English as a Second language (TESL) from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, University of Science Malaysia University of Malaya.

Description: Ms Gina enjoys the process of sharing knowledge, and from here, she learns what her learners can do. In turn, they help her become a better-skilled teacher.

More About Her: Lower Secondary English and IGCSE English as Second language Teacher

I am an English teacher specialising in English as a First Language and Second Language in IGCSE. I find both subjects fun to learn, and I’m excited to share new experiences with you. I have worked with both private and public schools. I’m currently working with Aspiration International Homeschool. As a homeschool teacher, I look forward to students who are excited to learn English and use it to their best abilities.

English is a language that is helpful for you to communicate and interact with others locally and globally. With English, you are given access to a wide variety of information, especially through technology. I will be teaching English to guide and prepare learners for the IGCSE. I have always noted what learners can do and match their abilities with what they are expected to do without obstructing their engagement and allowing them to have a meaningful learning experience.

I like reading a lot, so I also love to incorporate literature in my teaching to make it more satisfying as we get in touch with our creative and human nature. Reading to me is the best and easiest way to learn something that helps build your character as a fully functioning human. Thus, I look forward to having exciting learning experiences with you!
